TYPE Hello, I seem to be having the same problem as some others out there. I successfully have installed my modchip and created and booted with an EvolutionX Boot disc. As per all the forums and the instructions, i have set the Static IP to YES and the Setup Network to YES. I have saved the settings and verified and revarified all of the settings. I am using a crosscable to connect to my PC's NIC. The PC is set at 192.168.0.1 and subnet at 255.255.255.0, no gateway necessary. The LAN connection shows active on the pc and on the xbox, but the Xbox's IP remains 0.0.0.0 I confirm this by trying to ping 192.168.0.3 and cannot. (I have also used the Network setup with my Windows 2000 and am using several different kinds of FTP proggies.) Regardless, the IP of the Xbox still reads 0.0.0.0 even with the Line status showing 100/Full Duplex. My Xbox Settings look like this: IP 0.0.0.0 LINE STATUS 100/FULL DUPLEX ETHERNET MAC ADDRESS 00.5:F2:A7:96:60 SETUP NETWORK YES USE STATIC IP YES IP 192.168.0.3 SUBNETMASK 255.255.255.0 DEFAULT GATEWAY 192.168.0.1 DNS 0.0.0.0 DNS 0.0.0.0 Can anyone please advise me? Obviously the xbox is not getting the IP 192.168.0.3 because i can't even ping it. I've been trying several things for about a week and have been reading forums and tutorials. Please and Thanks! Davey
Bad Cable, heh, could not hurt to check. Otherwise: Basic Networking with your Xbox and PC What you’ll need: Modded Xbox with the EvolutionX dash installed. PC with an Ethernet card. Crossover Ethernet cable. PC FTP program (FlashFXP seems to be the most popular and easiest to use) First you’ll need to set up your IP address on your Xbox. Choose the Settings Option from the EvoltuionX dash and Set the Static IP to YES. Set the IP address to 192.168.0.1 Set the Subnetmask to 255.255.255.0 Scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose Save and Exit. Now turn your Xbox off. Now you’ll need to set your PC to a Static IP address. First check to make sure you only have one active connection. If you have more than one, then disable all but the Ethernet connection. Go into the Network Properties. Highlight your TCP/IP connection and Click Properties. Click the Use the following IP address and type the IP address of 192.168.0.3 and Subnetmask of 255.255.255.0 Leave the Default gateway blank. Click OK and exit your Network Connections. Now turn off your PC. Connect your Crossover cable to your Xbox and PC. Power on your Xbox and wait for the EvolutionX dash to load. Then power on your PC. Open FlashFXP and click on the Lightening Bolt and choose Quick Connect. Server address is your Xbox IP address of 192.168.0.1 Username and Password are xbox and xbox Click Connect. In the bottom right window you should see your PC connecting to your Xbox.
Thank you for your reply. However, I have tried exactly what you said and no joy. (And other crosscables as well). Also worth noting is that this is a Bootdisk, so if i power off the xbox, it will not save the network configurations i assign in the evolution desktop. I have to keep this up and running after i save it. Thanks, but any more advice? Please and thanks.
well theres your prob then. once you save and exit the changes dont load but on reboot(bios settings) so you will have to get that ip on that bootdisk somehow edit the evox.ini with the ip you want?? what is on the bootdisk?
Thanks for your reply. Perhaps i wasn't clear. I am booting with the Evolution Boot disk. I cannot put anything on my Xbox HD until i am able to start FTP. Which means, i need to use the boot disc to do this. Are you saying that any changes i make with the boot disc aren't temporary at all? I have read and re-read the instructions and it doesnt say anything at all about this. In fact, on one forum, advice was given to make sure you leave the Xbox on after changing the evolution settings in order to initiate the ftp, because rebooting the xbox will remove the evolutionX desktop, which keeps me from using the default IP, etc etc. Have i misunderstood something here? Interesting... thanks again
try this tutorial if you haven't already there must be one little thing that your not doin http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/network.php just go over it step by step have a cup of coffee or tea first sometimes the more you get into it can make u irritable and well
i manually change my ip settings all the time , but ater i save and exit i must reboot before the settings take affect i understand this is NOT an option for you so you will have to rewrite that bootdisk, the file... evox.ini, open ip up and open up evox.ini with notepad and where it says 0.0.0.0 change to 192.168.x.x x's whatever your running on your pc
Simplified: You need to configure your evox.ini file to have the IP that you wish (192.168.0.3) You must do this before you burn it to a disk. If you start your xbox, and run the boot disk, yes you can go into the settings menu and it appears that you can change the IP and other settings in the menu, however as your xbox cannot burn these settings back onto the CD nothing really happens. You must have Evox on your hardrive before you are able to utalize your menu. So reburn the CD making sure your .ini setings are correct. *also note that you might need to reboot your xbox after you have connected your crossover cable. the first time I tried to connect, I booted the evox disk, then connected the crossover cable and it said the IP was 0.0.0.0, so make sure you turn on your xbox after you connect the ethernet cable.
I had those same problems that Kavika has. I didn't get my connection to work with a crossover, no matter what i tried. My solution was that i got an DSL-connection to home (would got it anyway) and with that came router, ofcourse. All had to do then was connect my xbox to the router and it worked like charm. Xbox got an ip-address and i got connected. So simple, nerve saving, solution is to get your hands on a switch or a router...
Shdwsfall hit the nail square on the head, edit the evox.ini file burn another boot disk with the new evox.ini file and rinse and repeat. Otherwise go buy a router and use the boot disk you have and then return it when you have evox on the HD –d(-_-)b-
Greetz All, Thank you all very much for your assistance. You were EXACTLY correct. Modifying the ini file with the correct IP before burning made everything happen. The SAVE feature is only valid on a HDD running INI. I appreciate it! Cheerz, Kavika
It's good that you got it working. Just have to say that even that didn't work for me. Saving the settings didn't work in my evox (HD installed) and don't have any idea why, but don't really care because it work great through a router. But good for you
