IP address

    I got a "Notice of Claim of Copyright Infringement" from my ISP about downloading a TV show. Is there software that can change your IP address without degrading your Broadband speed?

    well first you should stop downloading all things online for a while second the only way to truley change your ip adress is to have a dynamic ip adress you can use a proxy server but those dont really help.

    The problem with using a proxy like anonymizer.com is that everything you do is essentially being run through somebody else's computer, and they could very well be (and WILL be, if they're smart, to cover their own a$$es) monitoring everything you do. Of course, lots of hackers have proxies set up on unwitting victim's computers - lots of trojans and viruses do that - so maybe you can tell your ISP that you were hacked and that you have solved the problem this time... in any case, though, knock off the downloading.

    Should get like three notices before your ISP does anything. They want your business but they can't be seen to be doing nothing about copyright infringement claims. The only way to keep your speed and be anonymous is to subsribe to a premium usenet service. They don't keep logs and you should be able to max out your connection. Otherwise use something like PeerGuardian to block the IP's of the companies that monitor and send out the notices. No 100% guarantee that you won't get more notices though.

    A dynamic IP wouldn't help either since it is assigned by your ISP, same as the static one and if they keep logs, then they would still know who to send the notice to.

    Proxies would definatly result in a speed impact.

    celtic_d. I looked into usenet services and wonder if there is one you recommend for videos, as there is so many? I also D/L PeerGuardian.

    Depends how much you want to pay. Giganews or a reseller will give you 65 days retention with 99% completion. Then there are cheaper options with less retention. They will all carry the same groups or accept annonymous requests for additional groups, so as far as video content; it doesn't matter. Just comes down to price vs. retention/completion. Also speed since for example Astraweb do a ~1Mb unlimited plan quite cheap. Just depends if you want to max out your connection 24/7 or not really. You might not even need unlimited.
