does anyone know where i can find a list of ips to block on my peerguardian and emule. i want to block out the company websites like riaa/mpaa and all taht jazz. any idea where i can get something like that. thx in advance
Try visiting this site: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/index.php You can try using Protowall... or Copy and paste the links from the [bold]Blocklist Converter[/bold] to Peer Guardian, (make sure they're sorted in a way for eMule/Peer Guardian can read). Each list (MPAA, RIAA, Trojans, Hijacked IPs)has a link to the corresponding IP addresses. Just copy and past each link of lists you want to block and let Peer Guardian retrieve them every time you update them (both Peer Guardian's own and Blue Tack's own). If you have any other questions...let me know...
In Peer Guardian, you can add custom lists from other sources instead of updating thru Methlabs.org's servers. Also, there is another way to add lists by a url address. Go to this website: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/converter/index.php Click on the tab labeled "[bold]Source list[/bold]", then next to [bold]List to use[/bold], use the drop-down box and choose the list that you want to use... For example, if you chose the one: [bold]Level 1[/bold] (contains known IP addresses of the MPAA/RIAA/BayTSP,etc.) a url address will appear in the box below...copy and past that link and add the link in Peer Guardian thru the "add url" feature when tinkering with the lists... Most of the lists are useful, but not all. Do not use lists that are labeled: IANA Reserved (this will most likely block your computer from accessing the internet) Browse the site to see what the lists contains and which helps your situation the best...
IF you copy and paste all of those links you be at it all day, I have had no problem using the blocklist manager, it allows me to select the ranges I want to download (IANA,trojan,spyware,level1&2,microsoft,etc), and convert to damn near any type of blocklist available, as for emule just save your list after is has been converted to a IPFilter.dat in your emule folder replacing the original empty IPFilter.dat. http://www.bluetack.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=4
question - how do you find out how much cpu memory a program is taking up. you guys say that peerguardian takes up too much cpu memory, how do you find that out?
The old Peer Guardian took up a lot of CPU resources, while PG2 uses far more less than the previous version. If you're interested in how much a program/process is using your cpu resources, just right-click on your task bar on the bottom of your desktop and select [bold]Task Manager[/bold] and click on the tab labled: [bold]Processes[/bold]
how would you know if a program is taking up too much cpu usage or not? and could someone give me a guide on using that blocklist manager thing. i really dont get it. it looks complicated. thank you a lot
Peerguardian 2 Ive never seen go above 1% cpu usage ,even with 719,444,345 ips. Enable the sources you want to block in the BLM options Then click the download button ,BLM will download the list of your selected sources ,and display the ranges in red when they have all downloaded you will have to convert to whatever format you need ,by default it should format it as peerguardian/safepeer. After conversion you need to save the blocklist in your peeruardian program folder, then open the list using peerguardian,s list manager. There is a help guide for blocklist manager though ive never had to use it ,mostly it makes it seem harder than it really is just go through the setting up,and selecting sources part. http://www.bluetack.co.uk/blmhelp/ If you cannot figure this out, use the pg2 default lists that are with it when installed they will update themselves as well. The greedy fusks at the RIAA are definately working hard right and im sure they would love to know what it is you are trading, so make sure you can keep your lists up to date.
Also, there are lists of legit IP addresses out there. Don't go blocking every one of them. If for instance, you any of Yahoo!'s services and you use a list of known Yahoo! IP address ranges, you would not be able to access it. PG2 allows you to [bold]allow[/bold] legit IP address ranges and block bad IP addresses... Just remember that PG2 blocks known IP addresses/ranges...the MPAA/RIAA could use other IP addresses that PG2 doesn't know yet...
ok i downloaded blocklist manager and at the top it says sources, download, add IP, import list, etc but what do i do next? what do i download? i clicked on sources and it said 0 new sources. where should i go? thank you
edit: i selected some sources and they downloaded onto my BLM. i got a huge list of ip addresses in red. now how do i use them on peerguardian. i went to convert and converted to a .txt but when i open the file nothing shows up. how do i do this?
After you have retrieved the IPs you want to block, (in BLM) there should be an icon tha allows you to convert the text file into another format which PG2 could read. After the conversion, go to [bold]List Manager[/bold] (in PG2) and choose the file that you can upload...
