Hi there, I am using a programme called team viewer to help my old man when he gets stuck on computer stuff. The thing is you have to input his IP address in order to connect. I set him up with a router which means hes wirelrssly connected. Im no expert but obviously having a router means you kind of have your own personal network and access the internet via the router. His IP address is 192.168.1.101 which is a home network address. when i ip config his address it gives no info on his ip address and even if i knew it how would my pc know which pc to connect to on his home network? ie 192.1.1.102? Any help gladly recieved sane.
you need his outside ip.. that's easy.. get him to go here http://www.whatismyip.com/ and tell you the number .. as for connecting through his router/hardware firewall.. that's for you to work out.. maybe it will just connect but if not it's a matter to research which port the program uses and getting him to open that port.. obviously as this is a generic way to crack a hole in just about anybodys security you aren't going to get much more specific help in a public space..
Team Viewer does not require you to have his IP address... all you have to do is have him run it and get the client code and password.
^^^^ confirmed once you run team viewer it will give you and id code and password. You being on the remote side you just ask him for his ID and password that came up in team viewer. Its a great program and you don't have to worry about any kind of ip addressing as long as he can get on the internet you'll be good to go. I use this all the time works good to get past routers and firewall.
