I need a portable internet device that is more convenient than a laptop. I've done research and enjoyed my test run on an iPhone. All i need is an internet device i can use at wi-fi hotspots at the moment for business and personal purposes. I do not need phone service at this time, however, I'd like the option of starting a plan later on if I so choose.

I've read that the iPhone 3GS 16gb is available for 599.00 without a contract.

    My questions:

    1. Where is a link to purchase a no contract iPhone 3GS, or do I need to visit a local AT&T dealer for that?

    2. I've learned that iPhone features are locked if not using a plan. What features are locked, and what features are usable?

    3. If I do decide to start up a plan later on, is it possible to sign up for data service without phone service?

    Thanks for your time.

You'll probably just have to go into an ATT store to get it, and ask the which features (if any) are locked.

You should have data available as long as you are connected to wifi.

I do not think you can buy only a data plan and not minutes, but it's worth asking.

Let us know if/when you go in.
