Well i decided to write this forum because a lot of new users out there are purchasing ipod's and the cheaper ipod mini so lets begin step one: which ipod to choose this simple step can make your selection easier when purchasing a ipod ask yourself these questions before purchasing 1.how much music do i own if any and how much am i going to place on the ipod 2.look at accessories right now on the market which ipod has more accessories for it the ipod 20gig or the ipod mini 9 to 4 gigs 3.and ask yourself are you willing to use itunes or not the reason for this is itunes compression ratio compresses mp3's at a smaller but higher rate and several other mp3 services support ipod real rhapsody napster but they don't support itunes compression ratio and then you end up taking up more space on the ipod now for tips and tricks for ipod and ipod mini users 1.getting the most songs on your ipod mp3 player this is a common problem with several users some say the acc format is good some say mp3 is good but both take up space and lots of it on some occasion's how to slove the space issue: here is what you need 1.ipod or ipod mini with latest firmware installed 2.latest version of itunes (this trick only works under itunes) 3.the mp3 format of your album you can rip your music cd through media player and tell it to convert the cd to mp3 this seems to work the best for this trick 4. the ipod usb cable/firewire cable ok once you have all of these things up and running on your personal computer you want to go to the directory of your album then you want to right click the mp3 file select properties and check to make sure that i tunes is opening the mp3 not windows media player if media player is listed as the program opening these files change it to itunes by selecting change then from the program list select itunes ok once this is done open each of the mp3 files seperatly itunes will then place them in your libary in the itunes desktop go into libary in itunes and place all the information in the files like album which group genre thing like that then close itunes plug in your ipod itunes will reopen by itself and update the information on the ipod and thats it for some reason when itunes converts a mp3 to another application or mp3 player it shrinks the mp3 and makes it smaller without using acc kinda interresting hole in the software!! keeping your ipod clean recommendation buy a ipod skin or a ipod carrier it will save your ipod in the end now for the big one IF YOU PURCHASE A IPOD OFF OF EBAY MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT VERSION VERSION 1 IPOD'S HAVE THE EIGHTEEN MONTH BATTERY PROBLEM AFTER 18 MONTHS THE BATTERY DIES BUT DON'T WORRY TONS OF LOCAL MACINTOSH STORES HAVE A REPLACEMENT BATTERY PLAN AND WILL INSTALL A NEW BATTERY FOR AROUND 79.99 TO 150.00 DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED AT interrestinf findings well here are my findings: i took a mp3 i created out of all of my linkin park cd's the total size of this mp3 is 128 megs after running the mp3 through itunes the itunes service converted the mp3 and compressed it into a file that is now only 64 megs talk about compression well thats it if any one has any other tricks or tips they wish to post here post them and have fun
