use a proggy called YamiPod, this will allow you to transfer iPod library to the PC HDD.

Theres tons of software to do this procedure with. I personally use and recommend SharePod (free, google it). Its about 600kb total I believe and it stays on your iPods hard drive or ram. You plug in the iPod go to my computer open up your ipod by double clicking its icon. Start SharePod off your iPod and it lets you copy music from your iPod to your PC, from your PC to your iPod. I personally like it because theres no installation so if I want to use it on another pc I dont have to install anything just have my iPod w/ SharePod on it and my iPod cable.
