I bought my iPod back in June 2005, downloaded my first song in April 2006 and now my iPod is giving me problems. My major dilemma is that it will let me select a song, but immediately moves from it to the next song, which doesn't play either. I just watch, helpless, as the screen runs through my playlist one by one, not playing any songs! I can pause it, but when I hit play it just continues doing the same thing. Very randomly will it let me play one of my 180 songs, but it's usually just one song, then back to malfunctioning. I also noticed that I can no longer bring up my "Recently Added" list.

    Thanks for the help!

Try restoring it, sometimes the file that keeps track of where the iPod puts the files gets corrupted, and you get skipped song after skipped song. This will mean you have to reload all of your music, so make sure you have it backed up on your computer. If you don't there is a guide on how to do that stickied at the top of this forum.

so i fixed the problem (for now at least). since my laptop has crashed (either the "motherboard" is busted or the hardrive and CD rom have gone at once according to the nice man at Staples) i linked my ipod to my parent's desk top. I had to first download the iTunes software there and then it prompted me to update my ipod software, which i did (i had been ignoring those prompts before...oops). iTunes then told me that i couldn't have 2 separate libraries so i opted to import the music from the iPod to my parent's computer. but for some reason it said my computer wouldn't allow 76 of my songs to be imported. come on!! i stand to lose justin timberlake's senorita?!? i will not have it! heehee. any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about the laptop, but about our good man Justin Timberlake, you could try one of the ways here:

to manually get your songs off of your iPod. The iPod updates are not really very crucial unless your iPod is malfunctioning. When a new update comes out it's usually best to not update right away and see if other people have problems with it. Apple has made a few mistakes when it comes to there firmware.
