Take a look here for different methods to manually manage your music. You can't use the iPod in hard disk mode directly just because you won't be able to recognize the file names, they are listed in coded folders named things like 'F02'
oh ok thanks i hate the fact that the only way to put music on your ipd is b itunes i wish there was another way.
