    I would try restoring the iPod using the iPod updater. This will erase all the music & videos on the iPod, but they will still be in iTunes for you to update. If you are unsure on how to restore, check out the link in my sig.

    I said the same thing in another topic, but I had this same issue w/ a diff type of IPod and it fixed the thing. If you are using a firewire cable, go out and buy a USB one instead. My friend also had the same issue w/ the "Do Not Disconnect" message showing on the screen but nothing on the ITunes. But as soon as he changed his wire from a firewire one to the USB one, the thing was working perfectly fine and ITunes detected it and he was doing good. The only issue with this is that if you have a USB 1.0 port and you do not have a USB 2.0 port, it's gonna be slower. But hey, if the firewire isn't working at all who cares? Better a little slower then to have nothing at all...

    @BryanH.

    Download the latest iPod updater and see if this fixes the problem. (hint: plug in you iPod before opening the updater)

    Themes are different image and font styles that you can write on your iPod's firmare with. You need to hack into the iPod to do so, so check out this tutorial by Lethal_B if you want to attempt it:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/323431

    There are a few different tutorials (showing how to hack separate strands of the firmware), so you will need to find all of them by scrolling through the pages. If you have any questions about it, please post them in there.

    Take Care!
