My son's shuffle plays back the sound quite badly. Moving the earplugs in the jackplug socket on the shuffle makes the sound come and go. We have used 3 sets of ear plugs and they all dothe same thing. this would indicate the problem is the socket on the shuffle that the ear plugs plug into. Apart from cleaning it, if there is a problem with the socket, how can I replace it? Thanks.
If it is under warranty Apple will probably fix it for you [standard warranty is 1 year from date of purchase] there isn't really anything that can be done to improve that. The headphones probably got pushed in a direction other then up or down and pushed the metal contacts away from the headphone jack, resulting in a poor connection.
You could probably try taking a needle or something and prying the metal contacts back towards the middle of the headphone jack. I've never tried it myself and you risk breaking it more, but I'd say give it a shot, just be gentle. I don't think there is any way to just replace the headphone jack [those shuffles are pretty well sealed anyway].
