Ipod shuffle update question

    I have a ipod shuffler and after i put the songs i want on my ipod shuffler and then i delete the songs off my pc but when i plug the ipod into my pc to charge the battery the ipod shuffler updates automatically and then i have no music on my ipod....how can i stop this from happening?....its driving me crazy i tried everything
