Is there anyway to be able to use a ipod on a PC and MAC without reformating the entire ipod itself. Sorry if this is elementary stuff but i was just wondering.

Format your iPod on your PC, as both it & the Mac can read the FAT32 file system that PC's use to format the iPod.

You go about it like you would normally use your iPod on your PC, if you originally used it on a Mac you'll be needing to download the iPod Updater on your PC, which will format the iPod to FAT 32, which as Lethal said can be read by both PC and Mac. If you reformat through 'My Computer' it erases everything on the iPod including the firmware, which you would then need to reinstall.
