hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I've recently got a 30gb ipod video, and I can't seem to charge it through the data cable from the usb port. All the data transfer works fine, while that's going on the little flash on the battery icon shows it's charging for those few minutes, then after the update if I leave the ipod plugged to the cable it just turns itself off. How do I get it to charge? I'm so thick , there must be something I'm missing!

    Hope you can help :)

try charging it without transferring any data to the ipod and see if the same thing happens.

Well it should turn itself off, but if it's charging it should have a picture of a battery on the screen. If not you may not be using a powered USB port, so you might want to try another [possibly not on the front of your PC or your keyboard?]It also helps to have the iPod disconnected [by clicking the arrow next to the iPod in iTunes] although yours may be doing that by itself [it'll say iPod ok to disconnect] since it turned itself off.

Thank you for replying Weazel and DarkJello. I was already using a usb port on the back of my computer, but I tried plugging it into another one and it worked! Funny, I thought they were all the same. Ah well. I'm very very grateful - thank you so much :) xxx

One of your ports could also be defected. Although i can imaging why anyone would need as many USB ports as they give on modern computers.

O/T, when I first got my computer, I thought, "Who needs six USB ports?".

But after adding modem, printer, webcam, remote control sensor, usb bluetooth & having my iPod USB in constantly, I have none left!

I have 3 on my laptop.

    1) mouse

The other two just switch between a headset and a few external devices. One dont have to have 1 USB port dedicaded to the headset. I dont find it the least bit anoying to do a little switching out once in a while. It takes 3 seconds!
