I have a problem.. (don’t we all),, well, I can not decide which of these two devices (The Iriver PMP 120 or the Archos AV420) that fits my needs the best (as little conversion as possible). From reading several reviews and skimming through forums, my conclusion is that everybody seems to like the Archos better than the Iriver.. Why? well, mainly because it can record tv etc.. But that is not why I want a PVP. What Im looking for in my mediaplayer is as little converting time as possible. It seems like you have to do a lot of converting with the Archos, which is time consuming. If you have a divx or a xvid file with AC3 sound I understand that that for the Archos you have to make the sound in MP3 for it to work (the xvid-file itself works, right?). What about the Iriver, does it play AC3? Do you have to convert at all? The thing is I have alot of divx and xvid files with sound encoded in AC3.. From what I understand you don't have to convert the movie it self for it to work on either of the players, as they both support Xvid and Divx... I dont know.. Does anybody know anything about this?
These are both portable players, right? If they are then probably neither of them support AC3, as it is generally used for multiple channels, and there's only so much sound you can get out of a portable device. I'll search around on the iRiver and see what comes up.
It's as I thought, neither support AC3. Although I did come across a player that supported AC3 while searching, called a PQI mPack 800, so you might check that out.
