I have a RZ-22g Vaio with 2.4 p4, 2 separate hard drives one 250 the other 200gigs. 1 Ram of memory. Anyway, I recently upgraded my cd-rom to a dual layer burner LG HL-DT-ST GSA 4166b. The computer recognizes the drive, my bios also recognizes the drives, yet certain programs Nero, Recordnow Max and Shrink do not. Nero's info tool recognizes the drive yet when I open the program I get instead video recorder virtual device where the drive should be. Shrink will read from the drive and even has the drop down to start to scan from the drive; however when i go to save the program, it only shows the original drive. Then the standard save to folder options. Pinnacle 9 recognizes both drives. I have tried to change the drives from master/slave to CS and even switched the master and slave with no success. The drives are connected on one cable to the secondary IDE slot. I re-installed Nero, with no success. Is it possible since I have had my computer for approx. 3 years that this drive is not compatible with my computer? TThe drive has the lastest firmware. Thanks in advance for your input.

i personally thing this is most likely a software issue. how old is your copy of nero? if you have a version of nero as old as your computer, it may not support dvd burning.

indeed. try this for Nero - 6.6.0.13 update from here - http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero. I still use 6.6.0.18 even though 7.x is out and going thru endless updates, but 6.6.0.13 is a stable version, try that for now
