Hi everyone, I just got me a PS2 and a mod chip... and thanks to this board, ive learnt a lot...

but for my backup games... what media is better? Im using Ridata brand right now, backed up 3 games so far they work. I think they are Ridata DVD-R's... but I read in a few places around here to use DVD+R's...

could somebody tell me what the difference is and which I should be using?

    thanks!

I just backed up one game on a DVD-R, Verbatim. Worked fine. Prodisc DVD+Rs already got trashed about 10 times. As long as its one of the good brands listed as +/- R acceptable in the list of good media, I doubt you'll get coasters.

It depends. Some people say that their Ps2's read +R's better than -R. I personally use -R TDK's. Just try it out and see what's best for your ps2.

It's best to test out both types of DVDs before you automatically assume one is better than the other. In most general cases, DVD-Rs run completely fine and much better and smoother compared to using DVD+Rs on the old generation of bulky PS2s and even the recent slim PS2 models; however, there are also some cases where the difference in quality between a DVD-R and DVD+R on the same PS2 is so minuscule, you can opt for either one and there would hardly be a noticeable deficit. But in all seriousness, if you can play both, go for DVD-R if you're on a stingy tight budget since the quality of a DVD-R is practically the same using a DVD+R and much cheaper to boot.

And as a recommendation, I highly suggest you give Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden a shot. Also, some sage advice from me would be to go for what works best for you like many have said. The only reason I'm stuck using Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+Rs is because my v15 silver slim PS2 simply refuses to read any DVD-Rs, no matter what brand they are; hence, I'm stuck using them, but I don't mind besides the extra cost perhaps.
