I am trying to back up see no evil. It keeps getting errors when I try to run it through dvd shrink. I decided to run it through dvdfab. First time I used that program do I brn now or do I need to do something else with it in conjuctuion with dvdfab?

See No Evil has the latest protection, thus DVD Shrink can not handle by itself. You'll need either DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4Me.

NOTE: all tools are FREE included in the guides. So just read and follow them carefully and you'll be able to rip and backup any DVDs around the world.

DVDFAB Decrypter +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide (all free) for newbies. Simply skip #2 VobBlanker, unless DVD Shrink has encountered an error and can not continue, or unless you're an advanced user and know where/what to delete/blank out.

Rip any DVDs with RipIt4Me +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide for newbies.

    Best of luck!!

VobBlanker is NOT hard at all, it's how you use it to edit your DVDs/movies. It's pretty simple to learn. Afterall, it's FREE and it fix corrupted pgc, vts or cells.

OK, here's a super basic steps of how to blank/delete VTS or PGC.

<1> click or "double click" on the (any) VTS or PGC #, preview/play it to see if you want it or not.
<2> if not, then simply "delete or blank" them out.
<3> to blank more than one PGCs ENTRY, simply click or highlighted the very first PGC or any of them, then SHIFT and ARROW DOWN til whatever PGC you want to get rid, then BLANK them out.
<4> when you're done and ready, simply click PROCESS!!
<5> sit tight and wait, it should be done within 5 minutes.

I "delete/blank" all the junks that I don't need them (i.e. FBI Warnings, rating logos, Previews/Trailers/Advertise, Extras, etc.) and mainly keep the "Main Movie + Menu". Yes, by doing this you'll save tons of spaces and have a better quality on your bakups.

    Best of luck!!

oh i see... i'm a Linux freak but i do all my DVD stuff in Windows (laziness) so am not very au fait with doing DVD stuff in Linux. one of the guys here (wild77) has done some of that stuff in Linux so i did a quick google, here's an example link - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?p=473785#

edit- i removed the last part of your question as the answer is a resounding 'no'

yup, i use k3b (in Mandriva 2006). i do the odd data dvd in k3b and some data/audio cd's but no movie dvd burns as don't trust linux to do that (even if the dvd encoding etc has already been done in Windows)

    quote"is dvd shrink still needed?"

shrink has never been needed, it has been prefered because it is free and because it produces better pictures than most trasncoders out there. stll to this day, only Recode2 can be as good as shrink(or better)in terms of quality output. with new the protections, shrink does need help from ripit4me, fabdecrypter or anydvd but it is still the way to go for many of us.

with the advent of Ripit4me(with fixvts), shrink will be alive for along time. plus, in my opinion, there is nothing that produces "cleaner" files than ripit4me with fixvts.
