I have a VHS tape (it appears to be non-commercial) that I wish to transfer to DVD. I am using an ATI All-in-Wonder card which I was told supports(?) Macrovision. Is there any way to derermine if the tape is, in fact, copy protected, or if my quality problems backing it up lie elsewhere, perhaps in the make-up of the original recording? Would recording from one VHS machine to another be a valid test? Is there another way to be sure? Thanks, RAG
What is Happening that makes you think the Take is Macrovision protected?? Meaning what Problems are you haveing that is makeing you think the tape is Protected???
Sorry, I posted the description of the problem, but in another forum... The copy seems to be overdriven on the white scale, almosst wiping out the picture in some places on the tape. I was under the impression Macrovision caused bars, instability and negative imaging. What I have is rather like the brightness is turned up too far in places, (like an over exposure on film)and needs maybe some sort of gain limiting on the brighter portions of the analog signal into the card.
Well with the Experiences I have Had With macrovision it Caused the Image to Flash Really Bright too Dark and Sometimes Made the Video look Black and White but mostly it Just Went to really Bright to really dark which sounds Like the Problem you are Haveing... You can get a Video stabilizer or a Copy Guard remover like the "Facet Video Clarifier" or the "DVD Red Pro" which will remove the Copy Protection from VHS tapes and even from DVD"s if you wanted to capture or Record DVD"s....These Devices Vary in price from $30 to $100 depending on the Device and it"s features.... Cheers PS: There is a Macrovision Hack for ATI Capture devices (EG:All In Wonder, VIVO) that is supposed to disable the Macrovision Detection in the ATI Capture Driver so you can Capture protected VHS Tapes...I don"t know if it works on the Newer "Rage Theatre 200" or the "Rage Theatre 550" Capture Chips that is used on Newer ATI Cards but it seemed to work OK for me when I used to have an old AIW 8500DV and my Radeon 7500 VIVO card....You might be able to find this Hack if you do a Google Search....
