Is it normal that my dvd writer is displayed as an cd drive?

    As the title says. I have an LG HL-DT -ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20

    But when I enter explorer and select the drive, it says it's a CD drive... I don't think this was so before?

    Os: win xp pro sp 3

    same thing for me, shows up as a CD drive. Lenovo desktop pc. Have no idea why. I wouldn't worry so long as it works. Contact the manufacturer to see if they have an updated driver. But as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

    It has two names the bottom one is grayed out,the top one that is darker can be changed unfortunately i can't remember how i did it,try right clicking then hit properties
