Is it possible to burn a 720p movie on a regular dvd?

    Ok i got a 720p mkv movie and thing is that i want to burn the HD quality movie on dvd-r. I got a 1080p upconverting dvd player and i want to watch the 720p dvd on it in HD. any help?
