is it possible to burn mp3's onto a dvd+r disk with nero and listen to the music just as you would a normal cdr disk?
Yes, but the playback will have to be on your computer through software such as Windows Media Player. Most stand-alone DVD players will not be able to play them through a stereo system, but even that is changing with newer DVD players.
