I couldn't find any good topic about this so I'll throw in a very stupid question: Is it possible to burn PS2 games into a CD-R or do you absolutely need a DVD (and a DVD burner)? And does it work with Lite-on LTR-48246S?? Also I read some stupid spam mail that it would be possible to burn DVD's with a regular CD-RW drive with a correct SW. That's probably crap but anyway, if someone has any good info about this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks. -Tommy
Why would one need a dvd burner to backup a PS2 game? The way I understand this if one has a mod chip then one can use a program like Alcohol 120% and backup to a cd-r, play the backup in the PS2. Well I can rip a dvd to my hd (DVD Decryptor 3.1.6.0 or SmartRipper v2.41), then use a program called DVD2SVCD and use an encoder (Cinema Craft, Canopus ProCoder or TMPEnc Plus) and convert the dvd (ifo, vob files) to MPEG2 (SVCD), then burn to a cd-r< yes it is possible to backup a dvd2cd-r(w). DVD2SVCD guide (using TMPEnc):http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd2svcd_with_tmpgenc.cfm I use CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder 2.5) as this encoder is the fastest of the three and produces superior video playback (home dvd player that supports SVCD) Shoey
hi games for the ps2 come in 2 flavours! cd and dvd based, as you can see dvd is a lot bigger so it wont fit to a cdr! so you rip them with ripkits! which knocks the size down to 700 or 800 meg, then burn them! it basically takes out the poo thats not needed, movies etc...and leaves the game only! and you need the ps2 modchipped! if you have a dvd burner then no ripping needed! you get the whole game... i have copied a cd based game for ps2 to cdr and it worked! but i have had no luck on ripping dvd to cdr as my ACEKEY modchip is very old now! and its the type you need to boot with action replay disc! if you have a magic 3 chip (it boots everything!) and a like you should be fine as long as you burn at the right settings in CDRWin - XA mode 2 i think - its been a while! there maybe another setting but cant remember?
