An employee at a local movie store told me that once or twice a movie disc has returned blank or unusable... supposedly because the renter had tried to 'backup' the movie using his PC.

Is it really possible to erase a commercial DVD, or is this just a fairy tale?

    I am only curious.

    Stu.

More like an Urban Myth. A commercial DVD can not be erased. It can be damaged and made unplayable, but not by copying.
