It shows up on my computer, but will not read any disk is in the drive. I have tried all kinds of disks and unistalled reinstalled etc. This is the second HP burner in a year. It was working great then all of the sudden nothing is recognized. I am using AnyDVD program

If ti won't need new disks, might just need a firmware update. Run neor info tool (found at this website) to find out your EXACT model number and firmware version. Then, post them here, and I'll see what I can do.

Also, post your other drives model number here too, and we'll see if we can fix it :D

Slave which is working is ASUS DVD E616P3H
Like I stated earlier they were both working fine while I was burning several DVD's then all the sudden the first wouldnt read any disk was in it.
    Thank you for your help.

OK all firmware is up to date. Try going to hardware manager and uninstalling your drive and then rebooting the PC. Then let windows auto install it again, on startup!

Try cleaning the laser with a cottun bud and some rubbing alcohol to see if it is merely a dirty laser, stopping your disks being read.

OK, I will try that. Should I just have 2 things plugged into the back of the unit? I have the ribbon plug and the four holed plug but I see another that has four holes and is slightly bigger than a telephone wall plugin, should that be plugged in as well?

It is correct, I also took it apart and cleaned the laser. Still works to eject and light flashes when I put disk in it but it still wont read that anything is in the player/burner. Thank you for your help, I guess I will just give up on it.

Yep, I starting to think your laser has died. To be honest, HP aren't known for their DVD Drive quality...

I will not use hp anymore, it is just what came in my computer. After the conversations with their customer service, I am done with hp all together!
I installed the new Lite-On and it worked fine. Thanks again for your time and help.

I to have a very similar problem. Same exact Samsung model, same firmware etc. There seemingly is no firmware to be found. It is also a slave and suddenly it will read no BLANK disks. It will read and play dvd and cd but wont burn because it recognizes no blank medium. Mine too was working fine and suddenly this happened. Very frustrating.
