after installing a new motherboard i seem to be having a few teething problems (see other thread)

on the old motherboard the cpu fan was variable speed, so if i was encoding etc it would be fast and if it was idle it was slow (and quiet)

on this new one, i put the same heatsink and fan back in , and it just seems to be a constant speed, and not really slowing down or speeding up, i replaced it with a standard off the shelf compatible heatsink and fan kit, but it seems to be the same,

should i be concerned - cpu temp is 50 - 50c and fan is 2311 rpm when idle (monitereed in bios) and smart fan monitoring is enabled in bios

HMM... That feature may have been something native to the old Motherboard... The new one may simply not support it. As for the 50 C temp...Yes it is rather hot for todays standards, but I have an Athlon XP 2800+ which never goes below 57 C on stock cooling. Then again, it may be some other problem...I would make sure that the HSF is properly seated.

oh well, i will live with it 4 a while, if i sort out the sound problem with the motherboard i will treat it to an expensive cooler to keep it happy (if its listening....)
