I was looking to buy an NEC burner. I also heard Pioneer is a good burner. What should I do?

Plextor is probably the caddy. NEC and Pioneer from what I've read perform well with dvd-r media. The only disadvantages of the two is that they are not capable of bitsetting (the NEC can bitset with modified f/w but the pioneer can't). I prefer dvd+r booktyped dvd-rom (most compatable format) so I like drives that are capable of bitsetting. This is only my opinion.

I have the NEC ND-2100 AD. It's never failed me!

I have 2 NEC drives (3500 and 3520) in my pc and they're both great drives. You can find the 3520 pretty cheap nowadays too. I've heard the Pioneers have trouble with xbox backups from a few different sources but can't confirm.

I have a 3500 and love it. I have modified firmware on it so I can booktype my +R discs to DVD ROM. Works like a champ and keeps on ticking.
