Is softmodding illegal in the US? More imortant is it legal to sell service to "softmod" someones xbox. where can i find the rules and specifics. I was planning to include this option in an ebay sale and in my own company. i do case modding and so i was wondering if it is legit to "softmod" for a price as a service as long as customer signs a form stating that the "softmod" will not be used for "piracy"? or do i even need to do that?

    THANKS!!!

opening an xbox is illegal in total and therefor cancels your warranty,i suppose you could sell modded xboxs as long as that is not the main item, for example put the aqctual heading as whatever the modding thing is but in the auction stae you are selling a pen or something and then go on to say that the service is a free extra therefor ebay cannot remove the listing, simple.

Opening the xbox is not illegal it just voids your warranty, you bought the console and the right to do what ever u want with the console the same goes for any media, u can burn it copy it and create backups as long as u dont distribute or make a personal profit. Mods have just recently been declared as legal and cannot be punish by law. The only thing that is illegal is modding a game, for example halo2. If u read the warnings on the back of the game case it says reverse engineering which is modding for halo2, thats why people get banned from xboxlive.
