I have tried several free video joiners, or editors, and haven't found one yet that will do a suitable job. Some won't work at all (even after in compatibility mode), crash when clicking GO, unsink the audio with the video, or have some other problem. Is there a good, reliable, FREE video joiner out there, somewhere? Thanks, Tip
I downloaded and installed Avidemux. It's very hard to figure out, and has no help section. I did find a video tutorial on Youtube, which helps to load the files. But, once the files, in this case, three avi's, what do I click to get it to merge/join?
If the videos are parts of the same movie, drag the first part in Avidmux, drag the second, the third, and then go to "File"->"Save"->"Save Video". Give the new video a name(including the AVI extension) and save. Should take a minute or two.
I loaded 3 avi's, saved w/.avi extension, and a window popped up saying, "saved", but nothing happened. I did a computer search, and it lists the saved file, but it's nowhere to be found. The path is C/Program Files/Aidemux2.5, it's not there. This is frustrating. They should have a RUN button, or something.
Did you save the "Video", or the "Project"?It has a "Save Video" button...Why call it Run?...just use whatever location you want, save the file to your Desktop if it is so hard to find. .
Avidemux works just fine...Works even better if the video has VBR audio...unless the user cannot follow a pictured guide or a video tutorial...
Your last comment was obviously a slam at me. That's okay.. I still contend, Amidemux should have a help section. It is set up for the author, not the public. Too bad the author lacked common sense, as he/she obviously has technical skills. Both the pictured guide and the video tut are lacking, also.

cyprusrom, I thank you for your tenacious character. Because of your insistence, I prevailed. I finally was successful at "appending" (joining) 3 avi files, and it's all in sync! I found an explanation that finally made sense, "Using the 'Append' will enable you to choose one or more additional files to join together. This adds the contents of the other files without discarding the first one you opened." I will explain in detail, as it may be helpful to someone after me. Using Avidemux 2.5, to append (join) two or more avi files, I did the following: 1. Opened Avidemux 2.5 2. I clicked on File/Open.. to add 1st avi file 3. A window opened asking if I wanted to Build a time map, I clicked YES 4. I clicked on File/Append to add 2nd avi file 5. A window opened asking if I wanted to Build a time map, I clicked YES 6. I clicked on File/Append to add 3rd avi file 7. A window opened asking if I wanted to Build a time map, I clicked YES 8. I clicked on File/Save/Save Video - A window opened to name the Save I named the file with file extension, eg, test.avi, and clicked Save. 9. A window opened asking if I wanted to Enable "Smart Copy," I clicked YES 10. Done (I made screen shots for each step, but I'm not about to use an image host for 7-8 jpg's. I'm used to uploading images direct.)
Glad you figured it out! Yes, that is what the "Append" function does... However, dragging'n'dropping the files in AVidemux window should accomplish the exact same task(at least on the OS that I use, Win Xp and Vista). You can drag the first part, say "Yes" to whatever message(like build VBR time map or unpack bitstream), then you can drag the second part, third part and so on...saves you a couple of clicks.
