is there a software that you can put your files on no matter how big they are that you can keep them on your pc without having to clog up space, what i mean is some files are 7oomb some are 2gb or more so i have a lot of things on my pc & it will eventually slow down my pc & its only 200GB (7200rpm)its only 3 years old its a compaq presario.

.is there any freeware software that can compress your files so that my pc doesn't keep getting over full.so if there is a easy ony to use with maybe like a drag & drop type of way of taking all my music from my itunes libery & all my movies from my documents & lets say what i got on my pc now is 175 gb but my hardrive is only 200gb,you would just put them into the software & as long as you keep them in there it will keep my pc from clogging up,so it will make 200gb into lets say 30gb or more or less,i know about external hardrive but that is to much messing around,it takes 3 minutes just to transfere each file into a external one,i want one within the pc & without having to phisicly having to open the pc up & start altering it & paying someone a bomb to do it,please help me,to the a-team

You will find that most files are pretty much compressed to start with.. try it with a few.. run winrar on a divx file and see how much smaller the resulting rar file is.. maybe 5%.. and you will have to unpack it every time you want to use it, just the same annoyance as waiting for a file to transfer from an external drive.. Now .. if you have iso files hanging about they take up lots of space, and some will compress with around a 30% saving in space. I hope you don't have any dvd images stored.. they take up a massive amount of room for a small amount of actual content.. same with cda files.

Just looking at your scenario.. your figures..

If you have 175BG of data on a 200GB drive you are not going to be able to just add it all to one big archive. The drive will run out of space long before it is completed.. sooooo.. you will need some extra storage anyway. Either in the form of an external disk, tape drive or burning a heap of data dvd's.
Realistically for what you want to do you need to open that pc and add another huge drive.. unless you fancy building a NAS machine.
