Is there any software thats like the good old DVD X COPY PLATINUM for windows vista that will copy DVDS by compressing a DVD-9 to a standard DVD. i would use my old dvd x copy but i am not using windows xp any more.
will they compress a dvd-9 (dual layer dvd) to a single dvd-5 (single layer dvd)? dvd x copy would normally compress the dvd abit and overburn the dvd too
I have used Ripit4me,dvd FAB,DVD Shrink, and IMG Burn with Vista. On Windows 7 RC1 dvd FAB 5.x and 6 also DVD Shrink and of course IMG Burn. DVD Shrink will allow you to compress and recompile the full DVD. On VISTA and W7RC1 these apps run well. No lock-ups or any other *ups I stay permanently mad at Intel. These results are with 64 bit dual core AMD CPUs...
dvdfab will compress for you, as well as decrypt and burn. works great in vista. the platinum or gold editions will,at least, do the shrinking, but require yearly memberships. the free hd decryypter portion will at least decrypt it for you for freeware, you can use dvdshrink to compress, but i think the results of dvd shrink are not great, but it is free tho you will then need to burn it with something like image burn, which is free, and very good -- everyone should own it and even donate to the author too. (i am fairly certain that this burning engine is what is used inside commercial products like dvdfab for their burning portion of the software). for those of you who want a better freeware option for the shrinking/compressing portion of the dvd, i suggest you sign up for an account (and be a good member of the community in all regards) with asian dvd club, go to their forums or find the menu button titled help with burning dvds, or something like that. since it is lengthy, and i do not want to plaigerize the process as my own, i say check this out. great torrent site for a lot of asian movies, tv and anime, many with custom subs for dvds from all over asia. private tracker, expect to keep a good ratio, but they have a lot of good free leech items there. regardless, they have their own "ADC Rebuilder " -- a whole set of software that is all freeware (it does utilize image burn among others). many steps involved, but very well laid out with graphical tutorial, and very HQ results.
While dvd shrink does do a good job, a program that does a much better job (tho it does take a few hours to run) is dvd rebuilder. The quality which dvd rebuilder does is fantastic. For burning, imgburn is just about the best burner around hands down IMHO.
yea, i use to use dvd shrink and i am using imgburn at the moment. dvd x copy platinum was really good though, and it didnt take that long. pitty some one else hasnt released a new one for vista but a new name like they did with dvd decrypter > img burn
I have the source code for dvd x .. there is no way it could be updated.. the copy protections sidestepped the way it works.. The only option would be coding a new app from the ground up.. which is what dvd-fab is about I guess.
it really sounds like you would like dvd fab. very good commercial product (i think the results are much better than the results for many other similar products, including DVD X, though i have not used dvd clone by slysoft, which is also supposed to be quite good -- also, i can attest to the quality of their any dvd product). dvd fab is very fast as well as intuitive, configurable and powerful. i have been using it for almost a year now and will probably renew at the end of the year script. not something i can say about a lot of other yearly software. another option you might want to check out is : ShrinkTo5 it is probably similar to dvdeshrink, but a freeware option to check out. you can find it at this link: major geeks go thru the site to find other freeware and shareware, many pertaining to this subject. good site.
yea, i have been using DVD Architect Pro 5.0 to make dvds, thats a quality program. better than nero vision etc.
i found SPAM ripper does a really good job of stripping out the protection and resizing the image to any format you like, the software is available on trial if your into portable mp3/4 players (like ipod/iphone etc) then this software is perfect since it makes the output to any resolution you want. the files can then be burnt with any burner you like and i get some nice commission.
I loved DvdXCopy, had the gold edition. I tried it earlier this year on a new release after not using it for about 3 years and it worked just fine, no problems. I say keep it simple. Ripit4me or DvdFab HD Decrypter, then VobBlanker to eliminate all the garbage files from the original, then Dvd Shrink to eliminate all foreign languages to save space and if necessary shrink slightly to fit onto a single layer dvd, then burn with IMGburn or your preference of burning software. Easy, great results and not time consuming!
