I've converted quite a few HD .mkv files into .mp4 compatible with the 360. This one is giving me a very hard time, however, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I've compared the following information (copied from MediaInfo) to movies that work fine and everything is comparable. If someone can point out whatever is making this file incompatible with my 360 (and even better, a solution) I would greatly appreciate it! Just to cover a few bases: -I've tried my regular way, and I've tried GotSent [GotSent crashes at the end, my computer refuses to be compatible with Mencoder] -Yes, I have the MediaUpdate, like I said other movies work fine Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media Codec ID : isom File size : 6.17 GiB Duration : 2h 29mn Overall bit rate : 5 896 Kbps Encoded date : UTC 2009-10-01 01:41:38 Tagged date : UTC 2009-10-01 01:41:38 Writing application : Yamb 2.1.0.0 [http://yamb.unite-video.com] Video Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 12 frames Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Duration : 2h 29mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 5 999 Kbps Maximum bit rate : 21.4 Mbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 534 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.35 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.366 Stream size : 6.28 GiB (102%) Encoded date : UTC 2009-10-01 01:41:38 Tagged date : UTC 2009-10-01 02:04:12 Audio Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format version : Version 4 Format profile : LC Format settings, SBR : No Codec ID : 40 Duration : 2h 29mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 319 Kbps Maximum bit rate : 428 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Stream size : 342 MiB (5%) Encoded date : UTC 2009-10-01 02:03:16 Tagged date : UTC 2009-10-01 02:04:12
It's 18.2Mbps. Would those few Mbps make that much of a difference? Is there any way I can change that without completely re-encoding the .h264 file? I can't imagine there is... Thanks for pointing that out though!
Well, what is the extension of your file? Is it MP4? I think only MOV in AVC codec can be played on Xbox360. Maybe you can rename it to have a try.
The 360 can play a fairly sizable variety of video formats. If I remember correctly, it can only play .h264 files in the .mp4 container, and only stereo .aac can be used with it. If I wanted it in another format, I would need to re-encode the entire file. Doing that with a 6GB+ file on my computer (P4 and ATI Mobility, unfortunately) would take FOREVER, and it would naturally loose some quality.
I do not suggest you to re-encode it either. It is really a terrible job on your computer. I just ask you to RENAME it to have a try? Can you understand? Just rename the MP4 into MOV. I have such files and I can play them on my Xbox.
I completely understand what you're saying. As I said, I haven't had problems with any .mp4 files (given compatible components) in the past. I will try your suggestion, and report back. I do appreciate your help, though I can't help but think there may have been some misunderstanding between us.
uhmm "File size : 6.17 GiB " you do realize there is a 4gb limit on files other than wmv so all you'd need to do is split the movie up into smaller files and it should work fine
