At work, one of our computers will not boot up. They've asked me to take a look at it, thinking it may be the power supply. Before doing anything with it, I tried to boot it up. You can hear the supply unit running, but nothing comes up on the computer screen. On the front of the machine there is a green light and a red battery light on. After about 30 secs of being on, the computer quits running. I've tried changing out the power supply and the cmos battery and nothing changed except the red battery light on the front of the computer is no longer lit. Is there something else that I'm missing here? Or is this possibly a dead motherboard?
It might be an idea to test all of your hardware individually so you single it down to the problem, so trying to run the motherboard with a stick of verified working RAM and nothing else etc, because that way you are not blindly spending money on what you think the problem is. And if you have changed the PSU around, and still nothing after testing your parts, then you probably have a dead motherboard.
