I think I got most of my stuff in order look at this build and tell me how it ranks (lookin to play oblivion and fallout 3 and cod waw) GA-ma790gp-ds4h MB saphire 4850 1G Need help with ram from someone who knows(sites arent very helpful) athlon 64 x2 6400+ 500gb HD is the gigabyte board something that can be future expanded on, im kind of "wife" limited on all out rebuilds only get to do one every 10 years LOL. all suggestions would help.
You don't really need a motherboard that high end just to play games. You can do better with a cheaper board and an Intel CPU, such as a Gigabyte EP43-DS3L and Core 2 Duo E5200. I'd recommend 2x2GB of Corsair XMS2 RAM at 800mhz. It's cheap, reliable and performs well.
Actually I do quite a bit of graphic work and video editing as well, that ram you quoted is for the mb I asked about or the one you suggested?
It will work with either. If you do video editing, you still don't need a high end motherboard, but you would do well to use a Quad core processor like the Intel Q8300 (Currently in my opinion the best buy for Quad core)
They're slightly better for overclocking, but this is largely irrelevant as AMD CPUs aren't very good at overclocking anyway.
so in trying to budget out my cpu which is better amd athlon 64 x2 6400+ 103.99 amd athlon 64 x2 7750 BE 89.49 amd Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 89.49 amd phenom 8650 BE 118.49 Don't want to spend much more than the cost of the phenom
The X2 7750 is the best of those, but it's rival and perhaps superior, the Core 2 Duo E5200 is only $73.
what makes the 7750 the better chip (Other than the over clocking) it is a lower GHZ than the others, are the triple cores junk?
Basically yes, the Triple cores are terribly slow per-core, and as such the better dual cores can keep up with them in the applications that allow 3 cores, and in the ones that don't, the dual cores destroy them. The 7750 is the fastest AMD Dual core CPU yet as it has a new architecture, but despite that is only equal to the lower end Core 2.
