Hey, Just wondering if anyone knows if it is legal or not to download music from Ares or Kazaa or whatever, from CD's you already own? I have a CD that has crapped out on me on half the tracks, too scratched up to listen including one of my favorite songs. Can I download those legally from a file sharing program? Thanks.
It depends on the laws where you live. For the most part, if downloading copyrighted material is illegal in your location, it's illegal to download under any circumstances, even if you had bought and lost your original copy. It's not really worth worrying about, though. At least you're on the moral high-ground.
