Im using Nero to burn a VCD and even though my original file size is about 125MB it takes up about 450MB of space on the VCD. Is it normal for the file size to triple like that? It also seems to take almost 2 hours to burn that small file.

At a guess I would say you have a non standard mpeg file that Nero is reformatting before burning. Did you make the mpeg or do you know any details in regard to it's format.

Your question is a little vague like asking people why your kite won't fly without telling us that there was no breeze. :)

Sorry about that, I guess I should have gone into more detail. I downloaded it from Kazaa and I just went back and checked the original file...it was an avi file. I guess that formatting to mpeg is the reason for the file size difference?

yes, that is the reason and also the reason for the length of time to burn. nero is encoding to vcd for you..my suggestion is that if you want quality use tmpgenc to encode it not nero

are you sure nero is doing the encoding and not just doing the file check (it does the file check when you first drop the file in nero). If it encodes it, then it is because when you do it in tmpgenc, you are not doing a mpeg1 standard compliant. If you have the tmpgenc with the wizard then you should be selecting vcd ntsc (or pal if you are in europe) and that will set the vcd encoding to standard.

Nero was really ENCODING not checking. But never mind, I figured it all out.

I think this should be added to the tutorial or at least in the FAQs:

If you pre-encode your files with TMPGE, you must uncheck the "Create standard compliant CD" in the Video CD tab of the "New Compilation" window of Nero before you start burning. Otherwise, Nero will re-encode each file.

Try using NTI CD maker 6 Platinum. I switched from Nero to it & have had no problems - very impressed. You can get it on any P2P network.

I find it great. Very simple to use. The only glitch I have is that the 800mb/90min disc I have get reported back at 97mb only, but I have burnt full movies to then with out problems. It has to be a problem with the disc as 2 other systems have reported the same size & they are both different copying packages.

I got my NTI from the web. Just do a search for 'nti cd maker 6 platinum' on the web. You will finf a 30 day trial version you can download. Then send me a privat message (if I can set that up) & I can tell you more!!!! (If you know what I mean)
