You would need to have drivers for all your software, eg. wifi modem video card, and make sure they are compatible with XP

Also IIRC, the recovery cd doesn't let you install a full version of XP

Hit up the laptop's manufacturer site and see if they have XP drivers available.

They will be under Downloads And Drivers

EDIT - Change your title to something more specific like CAN I INSTALL XP ON A VISTA LAPTOP, beacuse you are likely to get more replies that way

shit that sound more complicated now.
shouldnt it work since im running vista with 32 bit and i want to run xp with 32 bit.

if i can find all the drives is there a change that i can downgrade to xp???

also how come the recovery cd doesnt install the full xp
it did it on my old machine why can it work on this one

or is there a way to isolate the os xp on the recovery cd and them have it as it was just like any xp installing cd

It is impossible to install windows of any version with a recovery cd...

The recovery cd only lets you recover an OS if the BIOS/Motherboard matches the cd...

Say if you have one for a compaq system....you can't take that and recover the OS on a dell system...

You need to get ahold of an install disc to reinstall windows.
