I'm sorry if this has been covered, but the past few days I've gone a search for info, and haven't come across some firm information for doing what I want to. And I really want to make sure before I lay down money for a DS :-D I'm basically looking for a homebrew option, that lets me use a 4GB or 8GB (That's Gigabyte, not Gigabit) Compact Flash card. I'm hoping to find an option that allows the boot of homebrew, DS roms, GBA roms, and emulators (Although that falls under the homebrew category) all from a single Compact Flash Card. I really don't care if it sticks out from the bottom, as I know the only ones that don't, are MiniSD/MicroSD adapters Is there such an option, or one coming in the near future? Thanks in advance guys
If it is CF Type 1 cards you can use the M3CF, as far as i'm aware only the M3 can be used as other CF adapters (such as the supercard) can only use FAT16 which is limitied to 2GB where as the M3 can use FAT32. If you want to use CF type 2 cards (aka microdrives) you need to either remove the back of the M3CF or cut a section from the back for it to fit, but they will work. microdrves use alot more battery than the CF type 1 cards as microdrives have moving components inside them
I don't want to use microdrives, because from what I've read, they are very fragile. I'm quite the clumsy person, so that's a no no Okay, so let me see if I've got the straight. The M3 CF version is the only one that can use something more than 2GB? I just did a quick Google search for the M3, and came across the M3 Lite. This will do the same thing, but in a smaller package, right? Now all of this is in the GBA slot. What is the preffered method of booting all of this from the DS slot? Because from what I've read, certain methods have their faults. Some can't play GBA ROMs, and some have problems going into sleep mode. Which is the best method? I'm really sorry for all the questions, but I'll be sure to pass along all this information to some other uninformed person like myself :-D
I can't any information on either of those two CF cards compatibility with the M3CF but 99% of CF cards work fine so you should be OK. The M3[bold]CF[/bold] is the only M3 capable of using CF cards (hence the CF name) M3's are also available for SD (M3SD), miniSD (M3miniSD) and soon microSD (the M3 Lite) The CF goes in the M3 and the M3 in the GBA slot, you need a Passcard3 for the DS slot for anything NDS related to work. The Passcard3 is made by the M3 team so will be the best device to use in conjunction with the M3. Sleep mode problems were with a device called the Max Media Launcher/Player, you do not need to worry abouit this if you get the Passcard3. It is only the supercard adapter that 'cannot' play GBA games (they say it can, but really - it sucks at it) any flash device for the DS slot will not play GBA games, but as you want a CF adapter you do not need to worry about that either. So basically all you need is: The M3CF The Passcard3 a CF card. and if you don't have one, you will ned a CF reader for your computer to put the games/homebrew on your CF card. One last thing. Are there any known issues with the M3 items? A problem saving games or anything like that That's probably the option I'm going to go with. Nope no problems saving, 99% of games work on it, all homebrew works with it - the M3 is the best around
