I believe it is intervideo2, maybe a step by step would help if you have the time. Usually I decrypt a movie first then just go to dvdcopy and copy it however lately there has been alot of skips in the movies or it is just simply saying no disc.

I have dvd decrypter, dvd shrink 3.2, intervideo dvdcopy2 and nero, so what would be my best choice to backup my movies.

    You want flawless?

Always start with a single layer DVD-R from Verbatim. You can get them for 50 cents a disc if you buy a hundred pack online, or watch for a sale at Best Buy. My Best Buy had them 50% off!!! I bought 100 of them.

Now you need DVD Shrink, the latest version. Use DVD Shrink to re-author the disc and just pull out Title 1 main movie and then go to compression settings and pull out everything but English sub-picture and English 5.1 surround.

Back it up as an .ISO Image, it should go uncompressed, others may be compressed.

Then use Nero to burn the .iso to disc.

    I love it.

Don't use DVD+R, they are generally less compatible.
If DVD Shrink can't decrypt it, use the latest version of DVD decryptor to make an .iso then use DVD Shrink to re-author that .iso

    Nik,

Flawless?? The only way to get close to that is by using DVDRB and CCE, but that is a little difficult and to time consumming for most. Your next best bet is to upgrade from dvdcopy2 to dvdcopy3 you will find that 3 is much better at copying your movies. So I would say if your willing to spend a little money to go with AnyDVD and DVDcopy3 you will not be dissapointed. Shrink and Decrypter are good and I use those two a lot but DVDcopy3 will produce much better quality and are a little easier to use. Although I haven't found a DVD yet that Decrypter coulnd't decrypt until today (Blast) it will eventually not be able to handel the newer encryptions comming out because there is no more support for that program :-( So best bet is to use AnyDVD to break the encryptions and if you don't want to spend that much money then you can go with AnyDVD & CloneDVD as a combo you can get these two together a little cheaper and CloneDVD2 is still a pretty good encoder. Well you now have a few different decisions and points of view so now you ask yourself "What do I use?" Easy every program that has been listed so far in this thread has trial periods so you can test drive them all and pick the one that best suits you..

Now the most important thing when backing up DVD's.. The media brand you are using!! Don't use cheap media or Memorex PERIOD!! Those Verbatim's you have should work very well, and I don't mean to be mean or rude but Reasons? doesn't have a clue.
Now that statement may have been true several years ago however the opposite is true now because you can "Booktype" +R DVD's. For more info on this and other media issues please pay a visit to the second link in my signature..

    Good Luck :)

Freezing/skipping is usually a sign of poor quality media or burning too fast.

If your burner is capable of booktyping to dvd-rom then dvd+r is the most compatable.

    bb ya beat me.

As long as it is completely uncompressed via my method, shouldn't the quality be that of the original? Through experience I have noticed no difference, even on a 50" 1080p display (plasma baby).

Yes, but the average person (making back-ups) doesn't even know what book-typing is, or have a burner for it. The is why I said "generally" :)

Most burners anymore are capable of bitsetting/ booktyping (pioneer never has been and still isn't) and you would be suprised how many are aware of bitsetting and do so.

Nothing and I mean Nothing! Is ever going to make an exact copy of the original there will always be loss. However will you see it or notice it? No of course not. I still do most of my movies using Shrink & Decrypter (Hard to teach an old dog) However IMO Shrink is not the best encoder or even close to the best but it is good and if your movie requires no compression or very little then it really isn't going to make much of a difference IMO which proggy you use to encode with.

    Another odd thing
Why would you use Decrypter to make a ISO if your just going to re-author the main movie only? It is much faster and easier on your system to just rip in "Mode" "File" choosing only the main Movie + IFO's... That way you will find is faster and produces better quality all the way around than using Shrink to Decrypt...

    Just an observation :)

    Here are some facts...

3208 DVD Players supports -DVDR 93%

229 DVD Players do not support -DVDR 7%

    2732 DVD Players supports +DVDR 90%

318 DVD Players do not support +DVDR 10%

    Source http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

    258 DVD Players supports DL+DVDR 67%

128 DVD Players do not support DL+DVDR 33%

So you see the difference isn't that much and mostly older players (2 or more years) have a problem playing DVD+R.. Generally is a little misleading :)

If DVD Shrink can't handle the disc on its own - you are in most cases dealing with an ARccOS disc. Using your method will only generate an error code in DVD Shrink.

Create a PSL file or use the freeware program DVDFab Decrypter. Save your money...

We will have to start a whole new Forum just for that. How many people do you honestly believe even know what you are talking about let alone know how to do that? DVDFab Decrypter hasen't proven to work very good, but maybe it will come around sooner or later..

So if your happy and it works for you then by all means stick with it.. :)

Always a problem to educate people.

Latest version of DVDFab Decrypter can decrypt/rip all ARccOS DVDs.

A bug in DVD Shrink for certain (2-3 titles) are not yet working. You can solve it thru IfoEdit. All programs pure freeware.

Yeah, I guess until it does become a problem I might as well keep doing what I'm doing.

DVDFab didn't work well for me. I just downloaded the latest version and I got a write error 5-6 minutes in. I wasn't impressed at all, and quickly went crawling back to DVD Shrink, yay.

I rip around 8x and burn at 8x, my movies come out perfect (to my eyes) even at the highest rates I can do everything at. Do you guys do the same, or do you lower the burn rate? I haven't had problem yet with skipping freezing, anything. Maybe it's jus that sweet Verbatim DVD-R 8x, only $0.40 a disc :)
