Or do I need to correct something. I tried to create a DVD using ULEAD MovieFactory 3.5 Deluxe, the other day. The MPEG file I wanted to create the DVD from is 1.5megs in length. My system is a P4 2.5ghz with 512meg RAM and plenty of disk space. I started the authoring process after a fresh reboot and with no other apps running. I created NO chapter stops or any fancy menus. 24 hours later the app showed it WAS still progressing but was only 1% done with the job. Anyone know what's wrong? Should I dump the software (it has groovy features) or is there a fix? Bob Burns San Francisco
I have noticed that people have had similar problems with these types of software (Movie Factory, DVD Builder, Nero Vision Express). These all-in-one apps, usually do not do a good job on everything. You would be better off using a separate program for encoding your files to DVD format and then importing the .VOB files into Movie Factory. It should not have to re-encode. My experience is that WinAvi is the fastest and has acceptible quality. Then there are programs like TMPGEnc, Mainconcept, and CCE which will do a better job, but will take a lot longer (though you can change settings to make them reasonably fast). You can try all of them for free, I would not suggest getting hooked on CCE as that one is about $2000. Mainconcept is around $150, TMPGENC is around $40 and WinAvi is about $30. I do not know what files each accept, but WinAvi should convert just about everything.
