There was a thread here a few weeks back where people were discussing ISF calibration but I can't seem to find it. Has anyone here actually had their HDTV ISF calibrated? If so please PM me - I'd like to get some info on costs etc.
My Sony Pearl and 60 inch XBR1 series SXRD were both recently ISF calibrated. I'll PM you the details.
Thanks dblbogey7 - also for the info on the 360 add-on. @cashman91: ISF=Imaging Science Foundation. In short, an ISF-Certified technician comes to your house and calibrates or adjusts the settings on your display using a combination of specialized hardware and software to produce optimum viewing and dramatically improve picture quality.
error5 sums it up quite nicely. Why do people hire professional calibrators? From Bill Blackwell's Guide to Display Calibration: Is it worth the cost? I guess it depends on you. If you feel you've invested a lot of your resources on your home theater and would like that extra something to get the maximum benefit from your investment then definitely yes. You can try doing the calibration yourself using Avia or DVE but I've never been satisfied with my own efforts. Besides there's only so much you can do if you can't access the service menu of your set - and this is something best left to professionals.
