i don't know what happened.. off my computer for an hour or so.. n the next thing i know, there are cockroaches eating up my screen. i immediately turned off my external, then harsh power off...

i tried tuning back on my computer, but my wall paper just turned into a statement saying that i have a spyware or something and tell me to use anitivirus. but before i could do anything, the system restarted on it's own... and just became an endless loop...

right now im doing a system recovery... because i want to see if i can save any of the stuff on my computer...

do you guys think it will work? or do i need a whole computer reformatting? and also, would my external hard drive be contaminated with the virus/spyware?

what is this thing anyways? and how did it get into my computer... this has never happened to me before...

    please anyone help!

I had a terrible virus on my computer one time and my desktop said I had spyware and stuff.. I unplugged my internet because we keep our business on this computer. The only way to get it off was this remote connect thing we bought at Office Max. It was called Fix It Service from CTRLCENTER. It cost $100, but they remotely connected to our computer and installed a bunch of stuff and after 3 days of 24 hour service, it was gone. They also provided us a bunch of tools to keep stuff off. Our computer ran faster after it was off. I would definetily recommend it. All our data was still there too.

If you don't wanna drop a benjamin, try and boot your computer into safe mode and then go back to a system save point a few days before your problem started. If all else fails, hit up some "Fix It Service"

I don't think you need to go to extremes here and pay someone to fix this. Just run the usual anti-spyware apps like ad-aware and spybot s&d. these things are usually annoyances at best, not terrible life-sucking viruses.

When I had the virus on my computer, it shut down Norton, Spysweeper, Ad-aware, and every other kind of software I could think of. This thing was malicious... But for most kinds of virus's, you could probably just use software to get rid of it, but in my case, I needed some pro assistance...

    Hi penpenshi.

If you think that this is malware, perhaps jchien speaks it best. However, before running programs like Spybot or any other scanner, it is best to first disable system restore, boot in safe mode, then scan with them.

If you hesitate before disabling system restore, because that will wipe your system recovery backup, you must consider the fact that the malware may have infected all the way into your system restore folder, in which case it would be pointless to run a system restore.

It is perhaps best to do a backup of all your files via a boot cd like the one from diskinternals (you can google it) and then try what I have suggested, or format your computer if you are willing to give up the fight.

Your external hard drive may or may not be contaminated, because it depends on whether the malware you have is an autorun malware, which means that it infects all the hard drives connected to a system and sets itself to start whenever the hard drive is accessed. The files on your external hard drive may be infected by a virus only if the malware infecting you is a virus. From what I hear, it doesn't sound like a virus, but rather, a combination of trojans and spyware.

Hope that your problem will be solved

    Best Regards :D
