Nero originally starts by saying it will take 5 minutes to burn the DVD-Video at 16x speed, then, when the five minutes are complete the timer then shows 25 minutes. Overall it takes anywhere from 30-35 minutes to burn a 4.3GB DVD-Video file. I am very sure that my computer's speed is not my problem. But is their some setting that I need to change. Thanks!
Don't burn it at 16x, just becasue it shows up as an option, does not mean you can "safely burn" at 16x. My only advice is to burn at a slower speed. It might be helpful to either include a log file or info on what burner and media you used.
One thing you want to keep in mind is that drive is probably burning at 16x once the video is done transcoding with nero. If you watch when you do a burn with nero you will notice that the drive does not do anything until the software is done transcoding and creating the video file for burning. Unitl the software is done transcoding and doing its part the drive is not going to burn to the disc. Once the transcoding is done it will then tell you it is burning to the disc and that is when you need to time how long it takes to burn. The drive is probably working it is just how the nero software is.
This is my dvd burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827131256 Here are the media's and times for how long they took to burn a 3.57GB Dvd- Video file: (They are all DVD+R's) 33:21 – 8x Ridata 33:11 – 16x Ridata 33:08 – 8x Prodisc 32:56 – 16x Prodisc 32:51 – 8x Linkyo 32:47 – 8x Philips 32:57 – 16x Taiyo Yuden
CALatSONY, they only thing that the DVD Burner does is cache the files before burning, I use DVD Shrink to burn the files to my harddrive and from there to my DVD using Nero. It takes about 10 seconds to Cache, and then its starts burning right away.
Ok, so your using dvd shrink. If it is taking about 30 to 35 minutes to burn a dvd with nero that sound about right. Does that time include the encoding process as well? What kind of burner do you have and what is the max speed it can burn at? You are using 8 and 16x speed media and they are all relatively the same times. Does your drive have a max write speed of 8x?
@ mash007 hi regardless of your media max write speeds for error free burn success results, never burn video at more than 2.4x to4x also dump the Prodisc Linkyo and phillips stick to the TY's and RIDATA (RIDATA is RITEK's own brand)
it is possible that your drive is in pio mode and needs to be in dma mode go here for a guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm peace
I have never had a bad burn, they were all successful. My max burn is 16x all specs are here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827131256 I also did a write with a philips dvd-r 8x which came to a total time of 27.53 seconds. Is DVD-R faster? And no, the times are only for nero to burn it from my hard drive to my DVD. Some people say it should only take 5 minutes for a 16x why is it taking around 30 minutes?
I agree with Bigfatboy. It sounds as though your drive is in PIO mode. This is the most likely reason for such a slow burn.
BIGFATBOY, Thank ALLOT! you dont know how long i've been trying to fix this, THANK YOU!!!! Now it takes 5:30 to burn with a 16x Supermedia DVD+R Thanks Again!!!
