The best thing would be to try and find the instrumental to the song on P2P. A lot of instrumentals get circulated from singles and vinyls.

Are you already familiar with searching for songs in Limewire? If so, type in some keywords like you normally would, but add the word "instrumental" in the title, that should do it. If it's not there, you could try "beat" instead of "instrumental" but that's a longshot.

Speaking of longshots, if by some act of god, your song was recorded with many channels and they only put vocals on one of them, you could eliminate that channel, and keep the rest. Unless your cd says it was recorded with 5.1 or some kind of surround sound, I wouldn't look into this option anymore.

Another option: my friend once had a mini shelf system that had a specific equalizer for making a song sound like an instrumental, but it wasn't perfect. It sort of drowned out the ranges normally used for vocals, and enhanced everything else, but you could still hear the vocals, very faintly. Plus, since it's not perfect, some of the music gets drowned out along with the vocals.

That was a mouthful, but I hope some of this can help you.
