Get some good third party audio management software! That will fix this problem and prevent many more problems.

Mind you, I probably hate itunes more than I should but just today I helped one person recover an ipod that itunes nuked. The ipod was connected to a different computer so itunes on that computer nuked the ipod. All the music was gone! This is only one of many dirty tricks ment to take advantace of stupid users. I had another one I helped TODAY where itunes would not create an audio disk. What kind of crap is that!!! Now you have problems loading tunes to your ipod. These things are basic and very easy to do ,I am a developer. I can't believe a popular software is having these unforgivable errors. Itunes is so loaded full of traps that it doesn't run properly for the user that is not trying to get away with anything. The software was junk to begin with. Anyone of these errors would scare away anyone with a lick of sense.

I suggest Media Monkey. The shareware version blows away itunes. If you do, don't go back to itunes it might punish you.

Media Monkey, Win Amp and Fobar2000 are 3 out of the top 5. I use Media Monkey but may try out fobar2000. They all provide a mildly crippled version as shareware. These will sync ipods but not the touchs. Apple is making all the new devices use a propritary interface. They want you to buy music from them.

If you google the names you can get to the sites. Oh the new itunes will attack your ipod if you use different software. You will need to remove itunes before you sync. Apple has improved the attack process over the years. I don't think you can get around it any more.

I can help with Media Monkey problems. The biggest shock for an itunes user is MM allows you multiple views vs itunes has only one view (artists). The interface is like microsoft file explorer. You will need to click on the + to the right of artists then on 'All' in the left window to get a familiar interface in the main window. It has so many feature that will also be confusing at first. The most powerful feature is that it can run Visual Basic and SQL routines on files you have targeting by highlighting them in the main window. They are a section in the forums devoted to scripts. Many deal with tag information. There are thousands of them.

My library is mostly mp3s. Not all the 3rd party software plays Apple formats. I believe MM gold (the paid for version - 22 USD) does use apple formats but I am not so sure about the free version.

I sets a flag so you can not see your tunes. If you do not have you tunes backed up, do so. They are in a hidden folder ipod_control/music. You can have itunes on a different computer in your house but not on the same computer where you are syncing your ipod. It will look like the fault is with the 3rd party software. However, if you get rid of itunes the problem goes away. I use itunes for movies on a different computer but my ipod and itunes a year or so old on that computer. All syncs are on manual. If it had 7.7 it might attack the ipod I don't know. Apple is a very nasty company!

Actually, anyone using itunes and has music on their ipod not on their computer ought to be backing it up unless you don't care if you lose it all.

    No problem...

You probably have auto-add on. Turn that off. Then every now and then you manually add when you want to. You will specify a disk or folder and it will re scan that area. I do not have MM on this computer but I think that feature might be under File the other place it might be is tools/options.

Some of the great parts are the options you have with sync. The disk burn is pretty good as well. It does some handy checks to your work.

I never got around to foobar2000. I am pretty busy when I am home so I don't have enough time for hobbies. So I can't help you there. I do not think the problem is Foobar even though it may have started the ball rolling.

Keep in touch until you get straightened out. I fell responcible for your predicament. I am sure I can get you going on Media Monkey.

The service could be called file monitor.

Do I don't have any instants so this is about as fast as we can go.

Hopefully you backed your ipod up first as I suggested. You should do that routinely anyway but if you are seeing errors or doing anything out of the ordanary you have to you that.

Does your computer recognize your ipod?

    If not...

You need to reinstall itunes because your were supposed to have taken it off before you tried to sync. If not itunes screwed up your ipod.

Once itunes is up and running plug in your ipod. Itune will say you need to reset your ipod. That will nuke EVERYTHING on your ipod. Once that is done uninstall itunes and start over again. Try media monkey instead of foobar.

Make sure you are using mm3 instead of mm2. You need mm3 for newer ipods and newer itunes on the ipods.

Do not import 1 folder at a time that is itunes stuff. Do the disk once it get going it will do 300 g in only a few minutes.

When you are done plug in your ipod. Clik on the ipod icon and set up your auto sync options and set to auto sync then disconnect using the ipod button option disconnect. The next time you connect it should sync. I might that a while before it does anything do not play with it while it is figuring out what to do or you will be resetting it again. After the first time it goes faster. I would start out with maybe 100 tunes. You can just keep adding playlists to your sync list.

I will be out of town for the next few days.

    Good Luck!
