I recently upgraded my hard drive, re-installed WINXP and have been re-installing my programs for the last 2 weeks. Suddenly I lost administrative privileges. I cant see but a few of my programs in the start menu,including the system tools, but I was able to do a restore by going through the help screens. Every thing looked normal until I re-booted again. Is there a virus that does this or what? I really dont want to start over from scratch again. HELP! Thanks n advance T.Day
just reset all your admin passwords using the free ntpasswd boot cd. That should get you back where you want to be. I think your problem was caused by windows net framework software. I encountered it before and it is difficult to fix, but you should be able to work around it.
Sometimes a virus will revoke administrative privileges. Have you done a scan with Spybot? You can also run HijackThis and post the log back here.
