Try change the codec of the avi with e.g. Power Video Converter or Advanced X Video Converter (set video to XviD and audio to Mpey Layer 3).

    Good luck!

@scf_au, I've had a look through the 15 pages of software again but cant seem to find either prog you mentioned, is there a link available thanks.
I have gone back to check the movie source and mp3 is mentioned, does this shed any light on the problem

This worked for me... I'm not 100% sure this is the problem, but it could be possible, I wasn't able to open an .avi that I wanted to convert... Then I got the xvid codecs and it worked, seems if you don't have the right codecs, you can't turn into dvd. heres the link by the way http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

Hi Gwendoline; I don't know if this is of any use but, I recently downloaded a very heavily compressed Mpeg4 movie. VSO couldn't open it DVDsanta couldn't even see it.

Anyway bored by this weeks Monday allnight US football match, I download the latest version of Nero.

Nero said the movie was a mix of PAL and NTSC and various other AVI formats.
But burnt it in half an hour.

It plays on my spit Sony spit standalone.

I hope this is of some use.

I tried to convert a .avi to dvd, and TMPGEnc didn't let me open the .avi. I then downloaded the xvid codec, after that TMPGEnc allowed me to open the file. So of course that means I was missing the codec.

So basically what I am saying is you might just need the xvid codec, as mentioned, I'm not saying it will be your solution, but just a suggestion to try.

@Gringle, thanks for your reply. I am surprised really that Nero wouldnt open it, I've always had great success with NVE3 but not this time. I'm not game enough to upgrade Nero yet as I have this prog worked out.

@po3t, thanks also downloaded thexviD codec but no change. Looks like I'll have to shell out the $15 and go to the movies, then theres the drink, popcorn, ice cream etc...come to think of it I might keep trying. Cheers

@andmerr, hi and welcome. The title of the movie is halfway down page. I noticed the MP3 format nentioned and when I checked my Codecs I dont have one for MP3, is there 1 available. BTW nobody gave me details where to send "R++++" movies so I gave them to Charity.

@Scf_au, I downloaded both those progs thanks, I tried Power but that only allowed me a 50% trial so am now trying Advanced. Will let you know results.

@Gringle, I downloade Nero7 trial version and yes it does look good, however I started to worry when I couldnt find NVE3 but soon located it and burnt first movie without a hitch. I will continue with trial version and then convert to full version if it behaves itself. Cheers to you both.
