Using TMPGEnc to try and encode my .avi files so I can put them on DVD has been a very frustrating situation. I've put in so much time researching and trying to fix my problem just to get the best quility possible by using this program, I don't think its worth it anymore. The problem I am having is that after I encode the file I get no feedback at all. I've tried using VirtualDubMod and strip the audio seperately, I think I have tried everything. I have read multiple forums to try and figure out this problem and no matter what I do I can't get the audio to come.

Also, some will say this could be because most .avi's are AC3 audio and TMPGEnc can't recognize it, but most of the audio from the .avi's are MP3.

Please can someone out there help me solve this solution.

    try this....

    For MP3 audio...

    1. Open the AVI in VirtualDUB.
    2. Click Video - Direct Stream Copy.
    3. Click Audio - Full Processing Mode.
    4. Click Audio - Compression - Select No Compression (PCM) and click OK.
    5. Click File - Save as AV.

The saved AVI will be much larger then the original due to uncompressed audio

do you want it to remain in mp3 audio? if its giving you problems why don't you strip the audio, convert it into ac3 then lay it on in tmpgenc.

Matt84, another idea is to use SSRC and tooLame with TMPGEnc.

Basically, SSRC is a sampling frequency converter and tooLame is an MOEG Audio Layer II (MP2) encoder. If you set them up with TMPGEnc as external audio encoders, then the audio will be encoded before TMPGEnc even processes the video.

To set them up, download SSRC and tooLame from afterdawn and extract them into any folders on your hard disk. The open TMPGEnc and click Option - Environmental Setting. Click the Audio Engine tab and then under MPEG Layer II encoder select external program and browse for "toolame.exe". Under Sampling Frequency Converter, check external program and browse for ssrc.exe.

    SSRC: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/audio_tools/ssrc.cfm

    tooLame: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/audio_encoders/toolame.cfm

    Hopefully this will work...

    BTW, the AC3Filters are great t install for AC3 audio - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ac3filter.cfm

As for AC3 audio and TMPGEnc incompatibility. A way to get around this is to demux with VirtualDUBMOD and encode to WAV with BeSweet or something, you can then go bck to virtualdubmod and disable the AC3 stream, add the wav stream and save a new AVI,the AC3 stream will not be on the avi you save!

avi2dvd handles avis with mp3 sound, its really easy to use and the quality with the Quenc encoder is very good.
