1st of all, im a Noob at backing up 360 games.

Got my 360 flashed last week with xtreme 1.6, working great with a few games, but i seem to have difficulty burning games.

    Here is the set-up:

    Winowz Vista 64Bit
    ABGX360
Xbox Backup Creator and or IMGBurn
    .ISO & .DVD from Usenet
Xbox 360 with BENQ DVD Drive
    25 x Verbatim DVDR+DL

    Here is the situation:

I have downloaded a few games (8 in total), and have only successfully created 3 games.

    Step-By-Step:

    Download game via Usenet
    Use ABGX360 to Stealth
In Xbox Backup Creator, i set it to 'Drive Specific' VAD6038, Speed 12x*
I then burn @ 3x (the slowest speed it offers me)

Now everything goes well here, never had any errors, but....

When i insert the game in to my 360, i just get 'Open Tray'...

3 games are working 100%, but the other 5 just say 'Open Tray'.

    Am i doing something wrong??

Hope you can help, these disk's are expensive & dont really need any more coasters!!

    Thanx in advance

Open Tray error is usually related to the laser. I had a BenQ that did the same thing. Flashed it to play backups and started getting Open Tray. Eventually it wouldn't play originals. I replaced the laser and it has been working great since.

The strange thing is, it plays 3 games without any problems....

The other 5 have never worked.

    Originals & DVD's working ok

Same scenario with mine. It was very picky about what backups worked. Eventually quit reading overall.

Fairly easy to do. Once you receive the new laser you will have to remove a static point with a soldering iron. From there it is pretty much slide the new laser on the rails and reassemble.

Just read that i should set the 'Drive Specific' to DVD-ROM instead of VAD6038, Speed 12x* in Xbox Backup Creator. Im gonna give this a shot & report back

You need to remove the solder point. It is pretty much just a blob of solder joining 2 connections and you have to remove the excess solder.

Ok, not sure if this was luck, but just burned Dead Space (this game failed before) by using 'Drive Specific' DVD-ROM & it worked!!!

Going to try another game now....

First of all, Xbox backup creator just sucks for burning. Get clonecd or imgburn. Second, the whole "burn as slow as possible" is a myth. But I am kind of tired always writing the same.

    No Joy :-(

Just tried Saints Row 2, got the normal 'Eject Drive' error :-(. Looks like Dead Space was luck

Going to try IMGBurn now. See if i have any more luck.

Im 98% sure i have a BENQ drive, do i select Benq in IMGBurn? Or leave as normal?

Definitely use ImgBurn. Everyone else uses it for a reason.

And no, you don't have to use any drive-specific settings in ImgBurn.

I could use some help as well. I have a Hitatchi drive running ixtreme 1.51. It started having trouble reading any newly burned back ups (FYI, they were all wave 3 games, any older back ups before the wave 3 still ran fine) so I tried adjusting the pot. After that I'm assuming I burnt out the laser as it stopped reading anything... back ups, originals, and DVDs... I didn't touch the CD pot and it still read CDs.

I just got my new replacement laser today and replaced it with no problem. It will now read originals and DVDs, but still won't read my back ups. I'm skeptical about adjusting the pot as that failed on my first attempt on the old laser. I've also tried reflashing the drive. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Just gonna have to bite the bullet and adjust the pot, I think.

The only thing missing in your 1st post apart from XP 32 bit :p is a kreon flashed sammy DVD-ROM & clone cd,take a look round the forum see anything familiar regarding downloaded games,if your serious about getting every game you burn to work you have only 1 option & that's make your own part from decent quality media & hardware

126 games made to date using kreon sammy
126 games all play in my 360
Don't take my word for it ask anyone who makes their own *winks*

    Also.... (sorry)

The DVD Burner in my PC is FUBAR & i need a new one (PC running XP 32bit ).

Is there any specific DVD Writer that is better than others for this? Means it needs to be replaced, may as well get a good one.

Everyone has their own opinion on what type of burner you should have,i've stuck with liteons ,pretty much any late model burner will be ok tho you can always search for reviews at cnet,pc world etc, only thing i'd recommend when getting a burner make sure it does every type of media including lightscribe labels

The kreon sammy is just a normal Samsung DVD-ROM that is flashed with the kreon firmware, hence kreon sammy,i can't remember the model of mine there are two others as well,do a search round the forum it'll turn up,bear in mind only certain sammy's can do it so don't go buying liteon,or pioneer etc they won't read 360 games.
