i assume you are running, WinXP. This is a silly but realistic answer as well to your processes running at startup. Go to start--> run-->type in msconfig. Then go to the startup tab, uncheck everything that you do not want to start up when the comp. starts up. there ya go. You really only need your firewall and such to start up, no instant messenger etc..you can also do that in the program list to get that running.

 

In the control panel I have an active windows firewall it says and it is turned on... but I took your advice and downloaded zoneAlarm and AVG. I moved HijackThis into it's own folder I think and my Ewido is updated. And as far as I know everything is fixed. But my cpu was using 0-8% at start up and I just had to manually shut it down becasue It wasn't responding after several hours. Is there anything you see or anything you think I should try? Here's my HJT log again.

Does the computer freeze right after the startup?

 

No it doesn't freeze up at all. I downloaded CCleaner and found 734 problems, and that's after it fixed 16 of them for free. Am I suppose to pay for this program? I mean if I need it I will, but from the advice I've been given recently, I have downloaded: SPy Sweeper, AVG, Spywarefighter, HJT, Hitman Pro, Ewido, and now PconPoint.

AND at start-up it says "TrueVector Service is trying to establish Tcp connection" and "Guard is trying to establish..." I've NOT allowed them at this time, but what are these two and should I block them? And is there a product I should be purchasing or am I good for a while now?

 

Yeah I already downloaded it and ran it, but it says that I have to subscribe and pay $40 if I want to get rid of the rest of the problems. For free it only fixed 16 of 757

Well, RegistryBooster cleaned 15 errors and left 219 it says. And I have to buy another service if I want to get rid of the 204 that are left.

 

And when I ran RegistryBooster at the link you provided again, it found 188 errors and says "This Trial Version has Expired... To remove he remaining 188 errors purchase the full version."

 

Ok, the program you should download is NOT RegistryBooster, you should download CCleaner.

And you have installed the firewall version of AVG. You should now uninstall ZoneAlarm, running two firewalls is not recommended.

Ok HjT looks clean Are you still having problems?

 

I don't know if any of this is bad or not, that's all. I mean, is there anything in here I should fix. Since I don't have Norton any longer can you tell me how to get rid of the rest of the symantec stuff that is on here? I followed the symantec uninstall and it was quite in depth, but I still see some of it on here too. I'm not at all the genius of computers, but I'm trying to learn just a little so I don't have to always have someone do it for me... But, right now, I don't know damn about computers, but from what I've read over the past few days, some of this looks scary and I don't know. If it's all done and good, then thank you very very much for what you have already done. And if it's not, I'll check back tomorrow and do whatever it is you tell me to. But again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and being so helpful to so many.
